Matt Olson’s enthusiasm for all things automotive began while wrenching on his mother’s 1968 Charger that was handed down to him at a young age. He rebuilt the engine with the help of his father in eighth grade and went on to use the car as his daily driver throughout his college years at George Mason University and Virginia Tech.
Matt found lighter cars turn better when he began autocrossing with NASA and SCCA with a 1995 R package Miata. He quickly got hooked on track days after multiple visits to his best friend in the UK, taking his Series 1 Elise as often as possible to Bedford Autodrome and on one fantastic journey making laps at the Netherland’s classic F1 circuit Zandvoort and on to the Nurburgring before Playstation let you prepare for just how crazy the Nordschleife is.
Matt Olson’s move to the BMW marque came after a rough ride when encountering an oil patch entering the uphill esses at VIR. After looking for a competent cage builder and team to back him up on his passion, Matt found himself on RRT Racing’s doorstep as a customer in 2007. He developed a strong relationship with the founder of RRT, James Muskopf, and they found much common ground with Matt investing in the company shortly thereafter.
Just as RRT Racing was entering the world of professional racing, Matt’s connections garnered at the amateur level helped to bring big names like Steve Dinan on board to serve as the team’s Race Engineer. Matt’s influence in our en devours during the Continental Tire Challenge and again with partnerships with Insight Racing, class development with NASA and his keen business sense and corporate experience, have helped RRT grow into the corporation it has become today. Matt now serves as RRT’s corporate President, overseeing an operations team that is dedicated to meeting the needs of our clients.
